CMA chief resigns after two months on job

After just two months in the job, the California Medical Association's new chief executive officer, Alfred Gilchrist, has called it quits.

The physician's group said Gilchrist, who assumed the post in November, will return to Colorado to resume his position as the CEO of the Colorado Medical Society, the CMA announced today.

Gilchrist submitted his resignation on Tuesday, according to a statement from the CMA, and his last day is Friday.

"The bottom line is my heart remains in Colorado and so that's where I need to be," Gilchrist was quoted in the CMA's announcement.

Dustin Corcoran, the CMA's deputy CEO and former vice president of government relations, will serve as acting CEO, the association said.
