Matsui will hold her own health care phone meeting

U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui will conduct a telephone town hall meeting this week so constituents can weigh in on the national debate over the health care system.

It is, for now, the only scheduled public meeting on the topic to be hosted by the Sacramento Democrat, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees many health care issues.

That town hall follows other, similar telephone gatherings on health care in California.

Republican Rep. Dan Lungren hosted three health care telephone town halls in June and two in July, the most recent of which drew at least 4,900 people, aides said.

Matsui aides said the congresswoman's goal is to host a conversation with as many people as possible and not turn away anyone.

The region's first three forums – one in Marysville last week with Republican Rep. Wally Herger, and two hosted by Lungren in Citrus Heights and Jackson – drew large, boisterous crowds.

Matsui's telephone meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. Constituents are invited to call (916) 498-5600 to register to participate.

Other meetings on the topic are scheduled:

• Lungren: Wednesday, 7-8:30 p.m., American River Room, 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova. He will host a telephone town hall Thursday, at an as-yet undetermined time.

• Rep. Tom McClintock: Sept. 5, 4:3 p.m., Ponderosa High School, 3661 Ponderosa Road, Shingle Springs.

• Sept. 1, 6 p.m., Granite Bay High School, 1 Grizzly Way, Granite Bay.

• Sept. 3, 5 p.m., Jensen Hall, Lassen County Fair Grounds, Susanville.

• Sept. 4, 6 p.m., Veterans Hall, 255 S. Auburn St., Grass Valley.
